Wat Phnom Khliang
This 14th century site has
a wonderfully built Buddhist Pagoda which is of great religious importance in
the city. This wonderfully made pagoda is in Prey Slek Commune, Takeo and is a
popular place for various religious gathering.
What can you find there?
Ø A beautiful pagoda of
architectural delight has been built on 11 hectares of land with Wat Phnom Khliang located in the centre of the
site.
Ø This particular site used to
be a Hospital during the Khmer reignatop the 30m high hill, a pagoda has been
built of late in 1992 by the then Prime Minister Mr. Hun Sen.
Ø According to local beliefs
and tradition, a black granite stone situated at the tip of the mountain has
water flowing round the year, which the locals claim to be a magical rock.
Ø Several photographers throng
this place due to it’s sheer structural architecture, stone carving and other
figurines crafted to perfection.
Ø Interesting miniature
painting in myriad colours dot the ceiling and the walls of the pagoda which
will keep you enthralled.
Ø Right in the middle is seated
the huge Golden Buddha with golden encrustations all over.
Ø The Pagoda grounds are quite
green with tress lined all over to offer shade to the weary tourist.

Khliang
This is quite a prominent location in
Takeo, thus every mode of vehicle would take you to Wat Phnom Khliang,
including, cabs, Tuk-Tuk etc.

There are several shops selling
flowers for the tourist wanting to offer flowers to the Buddha. One would also
notice caged birds, which can be released at a mere US$1 for a pair which
attracts good luck.
